2022 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of EFSUMB on 11 February 1972, and we will be looking back at the history of ultrasound in Europe and of EFSUMB with a souvenir booklet for EUROSON 2022 attendees and for the EFSUMB website.

We welcome any interesting ultrasound anecdotes or images for inclusion in this - please send to admin@efsumb.org

The new year is also a good time to reflect on the future direction of EFSUMB and to share the programme for 2022. Unlike some New Year resolutions, we hope we can be held to account at the end of the year!

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hilton Meire who died late last year.
Hilton was EFSUMB Honorary Secretary 1993- 1999.

EFSUMB sends our condolences to his wife, Gill and family. Here we share the photograph of Hilton attending his daughter's wedding in 2015.

EFSUMB Guidelines for 2022

EFSUMB Guidelines are at the top of our list for more development in 2022.

Bob Jarman and his team are about to publish the EFSUMB Clinical Practice Guidelines for Point of Care Ultrasound: Part 1 (common heart and pulmonary applications). This has been beset with the problems with additional workloads during the pandemic of emergency departments and COVID amongst the authors but the wait will be worth it for this well researched paper.

For later release in 2022, a series of guidelines on Multiparametric Ultrasound (MPUS) is underway looking at the Pancreas, Liver and Small Parts (Breast, Thyroid and Testis).

All these guidelines and position papers will be available from our website https://efsumb.org/guidelines-recommendations-english-versions/

EFSUMB is also finalising plans for a new Guidelines App for release in time for EUROSON2022. The App will be free to use and will enable uses to find all the latest guidelines in one place.

WFUMB-EFSUMB
Student Ultrasound Congress 27-28 May 2022
Timisoara, Romania

Next year between 25-28 of May, Timisoara, Romania will be the “The World Capital of Ultrasound”, organizing three prestigious ultrasound events: The 18th World Federation for Medicine and Biology Congress – WFUMB 2022, the 33rd Congress of EFSUMB - EUROSON 2022 and the 25th National Conference of The Romanian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.

With so many ultrasound events taking place in one city, the idea of organizing the first World Ultrasound Congress for Students (STUC, endorsed by WFUMB and EFSUMB) was a legitimate one.

After more than one year during which the online interaction prevailed, STUC event will be a great opportunity to resume the ultrasound synergy and communication. The conference will be centered mainly on students and young doctors who are discovering the importance of ultrasound and are invited to submit their ultrasound research work (Abstract submission deadline-15 March 2022). Lectures form basic to advance, hands on stations, quizzes and meet the expert’s session will play the part of the program.

The congress will be held in Timisoara, a strong university center and a multicultural city, between 27-28 of May 2022 at the Regional Business Center Timisoara.
